Marseille's Remy can play despite heart problem

Soccer Betting Lines

08/24/2010 - Marseille, France (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Marseille and French striker Loic Remy was cleared to play Tuesday, just days after the Ligue 1 club discovered the 23-year-old had a heart problem.

Marseille acquired Remy from Nice last week and, although he passed an initial physical, a cardiac anomaly was later discovered. Further tests concluded Remy was fit to continue playing. He could debut against Bordeaux this weekend.

"I was a bit worked up but I preferred to find out exactly what the situation was so I could play on with a calmer spirit," Remy said, according to the Ligue 1 website. "I knew that the wall of my heart was thick, and I had already had examinations, but nothing as comprehensive as this one, so I was in doubt.

"When there is talk of your career being over, it's not an optimal situation. So this is a huge relief."

Remy will remain under medical surveillance for the next year, although just as a precaution. Marseille could have voided the transfer after discovering the heart problem.
