Mainz signs goalie Pieckenhagen to one-year deal

08/10/2010 - Mainz, Germany (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Mainz sealed the signing of veteran goalie Martin Pieckenhagen on a one-year contract Tuesday.
Pieckenhagen spent the last five years at the first-team goalie at Dutch club Heracles. Mainz signed Pieckenhagen after goalie Heinz Muller, the projected starter, sustained a knee injury that could sideline him for the season.
"In view of the injury to Heinz Muller, we've been looking for another experienced goalkeeper for the team. We believe we have found just the man for our situation in Martin Pieckenhagen. He is the right personality type and brings with him a true wealth of experience," Mainz sporting director Christian Heidel said, according to the Bundesliga website.
Pieckenhagen previously played in the Bundesliga, including with Hamburg from 2001-05, and appeared in 214 games.
